Bo Winegard's very bad take
What a truly bizarre idea.
But then it is established that Winegard, a Quillette team member, is an honest-to-god racist.

Razib Khan and Bloomberg Opinion Columnist Noah Smith
Someone on Twitter recommended this article by Bloomberg Opinion Columnist Noah Smith. I was a Twitter follower of Smith, so I checked it out and was shocked to see Smith promoting none other than race science hawker and rightwing media contributor (including Quillette) Razib Khan, with a link to Khan's Substack:
Over at his Substack, Razib Khan interviews Richard Hanania, a scholar who studies partisanship and ideology. Hanania still thinks civil war is unlikely in the U.S., echoing the verdict of Paul Staniland, whom I interviewed before the coup went down.
So I immediately asked Smith about it on Twitter, and he immediately blocked me.
And indeed, the American scientist who is the driving intellectual force behind the Chinese project is Steve Hsu, a Michigan State physicist who has written a fair amount of academic-racist and pro-eugenics stuff on the web defended the notion of "race" as a biological classification, raised questions about "group differences" in abilities between races, and argued vocally against affirmative action (and here is academic-racist blogger Razib Khan defending and praising Hsu). (Note: See update below.)Pinkerite has mentioned Hsu before.
So I have to take issue when The New York Times posts articles with headlines such as White? Black? A Murky Distinction Grows Still Murkier. What genetics is showing is that in fact white Americans are shockingly European to an incredibly high degree for a population with roots on this continent for 400 years. If we removed all the history that we take for granted we’d be amazed that the indigenous peoples had so little demographic impact, and, that the larger numbers of people of partial African ancestry did not move into the general “white” population.
The tortured history of black Americans, the descendants of Africans enslaved and brought to the New World, is well known. Much of American history is an engagement with this founding sin of slavery, and the unreconciled nature of racial relations in this country. Black Americans are in many ways the most American of our citizens but also the most alienated from our history. By the Revolutionary War, the enslaved population of the United States was already Christian and English-speaking, with few retaining any deep knowledge of Africa.
Black Americans represent the most prominent and well-known bloc of Old Stock Americans, but they are not the most numerous. Speaking about “white Americans'' artificially brackets many different types of Americans together. In the process, we erase a tense history of conflict and a fruitful synthesis of folkways. When headlines trumpet the fact that “most white voters voted for Trump” they collapse the essential distinctions and local histories that drive these social and political decisions. The cultural and social distance between a white roofer in southern Mississippi and a white lawyer in Connecticut is vast. And yet both are just “white” beneficiaries of “systemic racism” in our present-day secular theology.
I think Razib Khan got much closer to the truth in a December 23rd tweet, tweet:
the west had the lord god on high.
india had dharma
china had the dao
awokeners have "systemic racism"
the universal principle. the ground of beingEnd tweet.
If there is a white supremacy, who are these white people? My wife? Nikole Hannah-Jones’ Czech and English-origin mother in Iowa? Does the out-of-work mill worker in North Carolina truly share in the same patrimony of privilege as the scion of Upper-East-Side old money? Do they really both inherit a privilege that oppresses the children of Indian doctors and Mexican construction workers? The results of the 2020 election, where white suburbs shifted against Trump, and Latino and Asian precincts drove Republican victories down-ballot, illustrate that the theory of racial polarization where “communities of color” are arrayed against “white supremacy” is ridiculously reductive. Americans vote as individuals based on their own interests and values, not as racial blocs.
On Constitution Avenue, the Proud Boys encountered an unsuspecting Black man coming up the sidewalk. They began shoving and jeering at him. As the man ran away, several of them chased him, swinging punches at his back.Officers had cordoned off Black Lives Matter Plaza, but the group soon reached Farragut Square, where half a dozen counter-protesters—two men and four women—stood outside the Army and Navy Club, dressed in black clothes marked with medic crosses made from red tape. They were smaller and younger than most of the Proud Boys, and visibly unnerved. As Schwetz and others closed in on them, the medics retreated until they were pressed against a waist-high hedge. “Fucking pussies!” Schwetz barked, hitting two of the women. Other Proud Boys took his cue, assailing the activists, who disappeared into the hedge under a barrage of boots and fists. Policemen stopped the beating by deploying pepper spray, but they did not arrest any Proud Boys, who staggered off in search of a new target. They promptly found one: another Black man, passing through on his bicycle. He wore Lycra exercise gear and looked perplexed by what was happening on the streets. He said nothing to anybody, but “Black Lives Matter” was written in small letters on his helmet. The Proud Boys surrounded him. Pointing at some officers watching from a few feet away, a man in a bulletproof vest, carrying a cane, said, “They’re here now, but eventually they won’t be. And we’re gonna take this country back—believe that shit. Fuck Black Lives Matter.” Before walking off, he added, “What y’all need to do is take your sorry asses to the ghetto.”This was the tenor of the next eight hours, as hundreds of Proud Boys, groypers, militia members, and other Trump supporters openly marauded on the streets around the White House, becoming more inebriated and belligerent as the night wore on, hunting for people to harass and assault. “Fight for Trump!” they chanted. At one point, Proud Boys outside Harry’s Pub ganged up on another Black man, Philip Johnson, who took out a knife in self-defense, wounding four of them. Police intervened and rushed Johnson to the hospital, where he was arrested. The charges were later dropped. Outside Harry’s, I heard a Proud Boy joking about Johnson’s injuries: “He’s going to look different tomorrow.”
* In addition to being a race science promoter, Khan is a terrible writer, especially when writing about science, especially for someone who apparently gets paid to write. But I guess that's the wingnut welfare system for you. You don't have to be clever or good, you just have to promote right-wing beliefs. As we see with the laughably oafish James Lindsay.

VDARE supports Bo Winegard ~ racists helping racists
Of course what they mean by "genetic inequality" is the race science belief that Black people are innately inferior due to genetics and that explains why Black people in the United States have failed to thrive, post-Emancipation. This goes hand in hand with the race science promoters' hatred of Black history, especially the 1619 project, which provides plenty of evidence of the systematic immiseration of Black people by the white majority in the last 150+ years including the looting of prosperous Black communities.
But it always helps to remember that Quillette not only employs Trumpist ratfucker Andy Ngo, it also employs racist Bo Winegard.
I missed this promotion of Winegard by VDARE and a related VDARE column by professional racist Steve Sailer back in March - probably because all the pandemic-related craziness started happening right about then.

Proud Boys leader arrested; Quillette continues to employ Andy Ngo, Trump's ratfucker
In what must be the strongest argument ever against the "defund the police" slogan, Enrique Tarrio, leader of the right-wing, fascism-loving Proud Boys, recently seen on Pinkerite admitting that Proud Boys are ratfuckers who like to dress up as Antifa, has been arrested:
Enrique Tarrio, the chairman of the Proud Boys, was arrested by the Metropolitan Police on suspicion of burning a Black Lives Matter banner that was torn from a historic Black church in Washington during protests last month that led to several violent clashes, including stabbings, around the city.
A spokesman for the Metropolitan Police Department confirmed that Mr. Tarrio, 36, had been arrested on charges of destruction of property stemming from an episode in downtown Washington in mid-December. Upon his arrest, he was found to have two high-capacity firearm magazines and charged accordingly with possession.
Speaking of ratfuckers, Andy Ngo apparently feels one of his jobs is to do public relations for the Proud Boys.
Andy Ngo, a member of the Quillette team, continues to push the insane Trump claim that Democrats have something to do with Antifa. It's such an obvious lie if you know anything about the far Left, which hates Democrats more than Republicans.
But this Big Lie has been a favorite tactic of Trump and his little ratfucker Andy Ngo, and they have been at it since at least when I wrote about it in July 2019.
That is who Quillette is - an employer of Trump's filthy lying ratfucker.

Heterodox Academy, Koch and Quillette
Although Heterodox Academy claims its purpose is "to improve the quality of research and education in universities by increasing open inquiry, viewpoint diversity, and constructive disagreement" - it's clear that what they actually want is to promote a rightwing agenda, when you look at their self-congratulatory piece on "Five Years of Challenging Orthodoxies."
The article presents the thoughts of Sam Abrams, Bradley Campbell, Jonathan Haidt, Irshad Manji, Chris Martin, Steven Pinker, Paul Quirk, Nadine Strossen, Jonathan Zimmerman.
So let's look at who these people are.
- Sam Abrams has connections to Koch: "visiting fellow at the American Enterprise Institute in Washington, DC; faculty fellow at George Mason’s Institute for Humane Studies"
- Jonathan Haidt is an author at Quillette and a supporter of Bret Stephens' promotion of race science. Haidt is also a friend of FIRE which is indisputably funded by plutocrats, especially Koch.
- Steven Pinker is an author at Quillette and in spite of the mainstream media gentlemen's agreement to avoid mentioning it, a firm supporter of race science as well as being a part-time promoter of nuclear power.
- Nadine Strossen is a frequent contributor to the Koch-funded Cato and a supporter of Bret Stephens' promotion of race science.
...Yet nobody is likely to forget that he had sex with himself, which has been a big no-no since the advent of the Enlightenment.
That’s when the West invented the autonomous individual, endowed with natural rights. But liberty was dangerous, too: Freed from constraints, the individual could easily descend into corruption and vice.
Masturbation embodied all of those fears. It was solitary, fueled by fantasies that each person invented. And when that started, there was no telling when it would stop...
It is about the stupidest defense of Toobin that I have seen yet, and makes me doubt Zimmerman's judgement even without a Quillette or a Koch connection.
Speaking of masturbation, it seems of the contributors to the Heterodox self-love fest, only Paul Quirk is without a direct Koch or Quillette connection, or an embarrassingly bad op-ed. Or at least none that I have found yet.
So of the nine people highlighted by Heterodox Academy, five have direct Quillette connections and two have direct Koch connections.
This tells you everything you need to know about how extreme the goals of Heterodox Academy really are. Which should be no surprise because Heterodox Academy was co-founded by Haidt and by Nicholas Quinn Rosenkranz of the Federalist Society which receives donations from - surprise! - Koch.
FIRE and Heterodox Academy aren't the only publicly-acknowledged examples of Koch's interest in pushing academia to the right - Koch famously funds and influences George Mason University.
The documents reveal in surprising detail that for years, as George Mason grew from a little-known commuter school to a major public university and a center of libertarian scholarship, millions of dollars in donations from conservative-leaning donors like the Charles Koch Foundation had come with strings attached.
As early as 1990, entities controlled by the billionaire brothers Charles G. and David H. Koch were given a seat on a committee to pick candidates for a professorship that they funded, the records show. Similar arrangements that continued through 2009 gave donors decision-making roles in selecting candidates for key economics appointments at the Mercatus Center, a Koch-funded think tank on campus that studies markets and regulation. The appointments, which also created faculty lines at George Mason, were steered to professors who, like the Kochs, embraced unconstrained free markets.
More recently, in 2016, executives of the Federalist Society, a conservative national organization of lawyers, served as agents for a $20 million gift from an anonymous donor, and were given the right to terminate installments of the gift at their discretion. Emails disclosed by the university show that Federalist Society officials were also involved in hiring discussions and had suggested a student for admission. In turn, a professor at the law school wrote the society asking for help securing recommendations for prestigious federal judicial clerkships for students active in the society.
It's all one big happy Koch family.

James Lindsay - uncivil and possibly actionable
I think it's a matter of time before someone sues James Lindsay.
His career is well-protected by the thick layer of wingnut welfare, and praised by people like Steven Pinker and promoted by Bari Weiss.
He's already demonstrated that he is utterly shameless and in spite of his pretending to care about civility to the point of writing a book about it, he is uncivil to the point of obscenity.
Which doesn't seem to bother his Intellectual Dark Web supporters nor his pious, devout
Christian friends and business partners.
As I've observed, there seems to be no standards in the world of the IDW and Quillette and associated grifts, none at all, except that an individual must hate Black Lives Matter and the 1619 project.
But now it appears to me that Lindsay has become so reckless, so certain he will be supported by wingnut welfare no matter what, he's crossed the line into defamation.

Proud Boys admit to being ratfuckers
Ngo's strategy is obviously a template for Trump's campaign: coordinate with far-right groups and the right-wing media machine to bait and even frame leftist groups in order to claim leftists are out of control and a danger to the country...So it was good to see the leader of the Proud Boys admit that's exactly what they do.
...It helps that actual members of Antifa won't reveal their identities nor pledge non-violence, making them the perfect boogeymen for the Trump campaign.
Proud Boys leader Enrique Tarrio claimed in a post on conservative social media network Parler that some Proud Boys would dress in black to disguise themselves as left-wing “antifa” protesters.
“Watch out, January 6 — you ain’t gonna know who the fuck it is standing beside you,” prominent Proud Boy Joe Biggs said in a video posted to Parler.
