Jonathan Anomaly files a SLAPP lawsuit against Rational Wiki

I am not a lawyer, but it sure looks to me like the lawsuit that Jonathan Anomaly has filed against Rational Wiki can fairly be classified as a Strategic Lawsuit Against Public Participation (SLAPP) as defined by Wikipedia (itself the target of SLAPP lawsuits over the years) :

In a typical SLAPP, the plaintiff does not normally expect to win the lawsuit. The plaintiff's goals are accomplished if the defendant succumbs to fear, intimidation, mounting legal costs, or simple exhaustion and abandons the criticism... SLAPPs bring about freedom of speech concerns due to their chilling effect and are often difficult to filter out and penalize because the plaintiffs attempt to obfuscate their intent to censor, intimidate, or silence their critics.

And a little bit later...

A common feature of SLAPPs is forum shopping, wherein plaintiffs find courts that are more favourable towards the claims to be brought than the court in which the defendant (or sometimes plaintiffs) live.[9]

That last point is especially important because I don't think it is a coincidence that Jonathan Anomaly filed the suit just as Rational Wiki was in the process of fundraising to defray the costs of moving from a more-pro-SLAPP state, New Mexico, to a less-favorable SLAPP state, Oregon. 

The lawsuit lists various of Anomaly's gripes against RationalWiki which includes:

The only requirements are to adhere to RationalWiki’s Mission and uphold its point of view, and submit to oversight, by the specialized editors, of the user’s content and “edits.”

 45. Plaintiff Jonathan Anomaly is a philosopher and economist who earned a B.A. from U.C. Berkeley, a M.A. from Columbia University, and a Ph.D. from Tulane University.

46. Dr. Anomaly has served as a visiting professor at Oxford University, and has taught in PPE (politics, philosophy, and economics) programs at Duke University, U.N.C. Chapel Hill, the University of Virginia, the University of Arizona, and the University of Pennsylvania. Dr. Anomaly has authored dozens of peer-reviewed academic papers and is the co-author of Philosophy, Politics, and Economics: An Anthology, a widely used college textbook, published by Oxford University press.

> But not a public figure.

47. Plaintiff is not a public figure.

I don't know what the legal definition of "public figure" is these days, but Anomaly is certainly public enough that he was mentioned in a Guardian article this month, US natalist conference to host race-science promoters and eugenicists which says:

Broadly, eugenics is a group of beliefs and practices aimed at improving the genetic quality of a human population. It became the basis of a popular movement from the late 19th century, and led to governments around the world adopting policies such as forced sterilization of disabled and mentally ill people. The field was discredited due to its association with racial policies in Nazi Germany, and many critics have attacked it as a pseudoscience. 

One scheduled speaker, Jonathan Anomaly is a former academic and an advocate of what he has called “liberal eugenics”. 

The Guardian reported in October that he was a senior staff member at Heliospect, a startup offering to help wealthy couples screen their embryos for IQ even though screening embryos for these traits would be illegal in the UK. 

On the podcast of “new right” figure Alex Kaschuta, in an episode published on Tuesday, Anomaly said of his company’s services: “What can you do? Well, through embryo selection, you’re going to be able to calculate polygenic scores that reduce disease, boost IQ at least a bit, and maybe more in the future.”

And Hope not Hate discussed Anomaly's activities back in October in The Superbaby Factory - my highlights:

Former philosophy professor, early PolygenX employee (born Beres) is our undercover reporter’s first point of contact with PolygenX. He is an early employee of the company. He regularly appears on podcasts and blogs associated with scientific racism and the wider far right. Anomaly spoke in a panel alongside Simone and Malcolm Collins at the Natalism conference in Austin in 2023. The panel was moderated by Kevin Dolan, an activist in the DezNat far-right Mormon movement, which uses the Fasces as part of its symbol.

Anomaly has co-hosted live events for Aporia, the scientific racism website, and his writings have appeared on The Unz Review, a website run by the Holocaust denier Ron Unz. In 2018, Anomaly published an article titled “Defending eugenics” in the peer-reviewed Monash Bioethics Review. In an October 2023 video call with our undercover reporter, he described himself as a “race realist”, referring to the belief that scientific evidence proves racial differences. Although he is American, he spends time in the UK and has appeared on Lotus Eaters, a British far-right media outlet.

When we reached Anomaly for comment, his representative responded that he neither not held nor promoted far-right ideologies. We were told his appearance on Lotus Eaters was for “the furtherance of debate with those who he knew held different views to him”. Anomaly’s representative claimed that he asked Matthew Frost, Aporia’s founder, to remove any material featuring him from the website, as over the course of 2023, he began to disagree with its editorial stance. Anomaly nevertheless hosted a live event for Aporia in New York in February 2024 and many of his podcast appearances remain live on the website. He furthermore reposted four articles from Aporia on his Substack page this year, the most recent being July 22nd 2024. On December 26th 2023, Anomaly reposted an article titled: “The case for race realism.”

"Race realism" is race pseudoscience-speak for "some races are superior to others."

Anomaly claims his Rational Wiki article is defamatory. Although I have contributed to several articles on Rational Wiki,  I have never contributed to the Anomaly article, and hadn't read it until now. 

The lawsuit says:

48. RationalWiki contains an article titled “Jonathan Anomaly.” The article is dedicated to portraying Dr. Anomaly as a fascist and his work as pseudoscience. The article was published on RationalWiki in 2019 and has remained published and viewable on the website since that time. The article has been edited within the last three years Defendants by Will, Hughes, and Doe 1. 

The word "fascist" appears nowhere in the article, so it is unclear exactly why Anomaly makes this claim.

The article does classify Anomaly under the category "The colorful pseudoscience Race & Racialism and the article includes a section entitled "Pseudoscience and controversial writings" - but it appears perfectly justified. The article says:

Anomaly published a provocative article "Defending eugenics" in a peer-reviewed bioethics journal.[35] It has been harshly criticised,[36][37] with nearly 200 academics signing a letter of complaint to Monash Bioethics Review for publishing the article.[38]

The lawsuit continues:

49. The article is false because Dr. Anomaly is not a pseudoscientist or a fascist, but is a libertarian (or classical liberal), and has authored dozens of papers and articles where he identifies as such and propounds libertarian ideas.

I was just talking about how the term "classical liberal" usually means a libertarian who wants to seem less conservative. It's nice that Anomaly confirmed this for me.

So there's no evidence that Anomaly was described as a fascist, and if 200 academics objected to Anomaly's "Defending eugenics" that certainly might suggest that Anomaly was dabbling in pseudoscience.

And then there's the fact that in his article Defending Eugenics: From cryptic choice to conscious selection, Anomaly includes a footnote which states:

6 Informal evidence for this claim comes from the success of Jews around the world even in the presence of social and legal discrimination, and from the percentage of Nobel prizes and other scientific accolades Jews were awarded in the twentieth century. More rigorous evidence comes from the heritability of IQ scores (Ashkenazi IQ is the highest in the world, nearly two standard deviations above the global average). For more on the evolution of Ashkenazi intelligence, See Cochran et al. (2006), Cochran and Harpending (2009, ch. 7), and Wade (2014, ch. 8).

There is nothing "rigorous" about "The Natural History of Ashkenazi Intelligence" (NHAI) which is what Anomaly is talking about. I was the main contributor to the Rational Wiki article about NHAI, and I know how NHAI is nothing but a hypothesis based on speculation by two racists, Gregory Cochran and Henry Harpending.

This hypothesis, almost twenty years old now, has never been tested and some of its premises were debunked by anthropologist R. Brian Ferguson and geneticist Adam Rutherford.

If Anomaly claims that the Natural History of Ashkenazi Intelligence speculation is "rigorous" then you would be a damn fool to trust his judgement on what is and what is not pseudoscience.

And Anomaly's use of the term "heritability" appears to be the standard race pseudoscience effort to conflate the statistical concept of "heritability" with the biological concept of "inheritance." For more about the frequent misuse of the term heritability see The Heritability Fallacy.

Three more race pseudoscience ghouls SLAPP Rational Wiki

More than ever it looks like there is a coordinated campaign to harass the Rational Media Foundation, the parent organization of Rational Wiki with SLAPP suits, before it moves from New Mexico to Oregon, a less SLAPP-happy state.

Also - surprise surprise, Jesse Singal is in the mix. He gets so much credit for his anti-trans work that his support for race pseudoscience promoters has been sadly overlooked.

There are now five plaintiffs against Rational Wiki. Four of them are mad because there are articles about them on Rational Wiki that discuss their race pseudoscience activities and alliances. 

All five of them have a connection to Emil Kirkegaard who owns the Human Diversity Foundation (HDF). 

Per the case file on HDF by UK organization Hope not Hate, the Human Diversity Foundation (my highlights):

...advances race science. It is the successor to the Pioneer Fund, an American eugenics organisation created in 1937 that developed ties to Nazi Germany and disseminated its propaganda. Registered in Wyoming for privacy reasons, HDF is led by Emil Kirkegaard, a Danish race scientist, and Matthew Frost, a former religious studies teacher from the UK.

Kirkegaard and Frost separately manage the two main arms of HDF. The first is an underground research team that publishes articles in OpenPsych and Mankind Quarterly, both race science journals. Kirkegaard’s team consists of approximately a dozen authors, one of whom is Davide Piffer, an Italian race scientist who referred to African immigrants as “gorillas” and had his paper cited in the manifesto of the 2022 Buffalo terrorist who killed 10 people.

The second arm of HDF aims to reach a larger audience through its media outreach. It includes Aporia Magazine, a race science publication that Frost founded...

But I think the most incisive quote about HDF, found in the Hope not Hate article Race Science Inc is this:

• HDF is working to create a cult of weapons-trained activists inspired by Scientology and the Nazi SS
That tells you everything you need to know about Emil Kirkegaard and all the people who fund him and who work for him.

I have a handy diagram connecting Kirkegaard and his organization to various plutocrat funders and racist organizations.

Four of the Rational Wiki plaintiffs have collegial relationships with Kirkegaard, while the fifth plaintiff has had an adversarial relationship with Kirkegaard. I won't be focusing on that plaintiff, although I think his lawsuit has no more merit than the other four.

But it's still striking that all five plaintiffs (so far) have connections to Emil Kirkegaard.

Another thing they all have in common (except the fifth plaintiff with the adversarial relationship to Kirkegaard) is that they have all participated in conferences of the International Society for Intelligence Research (ISIR), including Kirkegaard, who was at the most recent conference in 2024. And David Piffer, mentioned in the quote from the Hope not Hate website above, has also participated, in the 2017 ISIR conference. 

Let's break down the Kirkegard/ISIR connections of the four race pseudoscience plaintiffs:

• Jonathan Anomaly - the first SLAPP plaintiff, Jonathan Anomaly is connected to Kirkegaard via Aporia. I've begun a series looking at the lawsuit and Anomaly's race pseudoscience connections. I will be writing more about his connection to Kirkegaard and other hard-core racists. Anomaly participated in the 2019 ISIR conference. 

• Jan te Nijenhuis - per Wikipedia, Jan te Nijenhuis "has controversially published several papers in the Mankind Quarterly which is widely regarded as a racist pseudoscience journal and has attended the London Conference on Intelligence.[4][5]" Mankind Quarterly is published by HDF. te Nijenhuis has co-authored at least two papers with Michael A. Woodley of Menie, and te Nijenhuis participated in ISIR conferences in 2000, 2001, 2005, 2006, 2007, 2008,  2009, 2011, 2012, 2014, and 2016. te Nijenhuis v. Rationalwiki Foundation, Inc. et al
  
  
• Russell T. Warne - Russell T. Warne founded an organization called RIOT "to address a major gap in intelligence testing: no rigorously developed, professionally administered IQ tests were available solely online." From his RiotIQTest account on X/Twitter, Warne shared with the world the fact that Emil Kirkegaard was permitted to participate in the 2024 ISIR conference after a brouhaha lead to him being disinvited in 2022. Had Warne not done so, it would have been harder to prove Kirkegaard had participated since ISIR has not shared a program from the 2024 conference as it always has every other year. Warne is mentioned twice in the Race Science Inc article, including:

In October 2023, the Conservative MP Neil O’Brien shared an Aporia article on his own Substack. Headlined “The West’s Fertility Crisis”, it was written by Russell T. Warne, an American author whose work has appeared in the pages of Mankind Quarterly. After O’Brien recommended that his online followers read the article, Matthew Frost texted our undercover reporter an image of a dark hand manipulating a marionette. O’Brien did not respond to a request for comment.

Aporia and Mankind Quarterly are both published by Kirkegaard. I've mentioned Warne a few times over the years on this blog, including that he's written for Quillette. In addition to the 2024 ISIR conference, Warne has participated in the 2017, 2018, and 2019 ISIR conferences. Warne v. Rationalwiki Foundation, Inc. et al

• Michael A. Woodley of Menie - of all the plaintiffs, Michael A. Woodley of Menie has had the most notoriety. He was featured in a New York Times article A Racist Researcher, Exposed by a Mass Shooting because the racist Buffalo mass-murderer cited Woodley in his manifesto:

 He was also cited, among other academic references, in a manifesto written by the teenager motivated by racist views who killed 10 Black people at a supermarket in Buffalo last month.

Despite his own extreme views, the researcher, Michael Woodley — a 38-year-old British man — has been affiliated with Vrije Universiteit Brussel, one of Belgium’s leading universities, and his controversial work was originally undertaken as he studied at some of the world’s most prestigious academic institutions.

The discovery that the gunman had cited Mr. Woodley’s work shocked many academics, who said they hoped it might now force institutions to confront questions about their responsibility toward society, academic rigor and the space they give to extremist ideas.

Woodley of Menie's connection to Kirkegaard is through his association with OpenPsych, published by HDF. Woodley has participated in twelve ISIR conferences, and been published many times by the ISIR-related Intelligence and at one time was a member of the editorial board of  Intelligence. Woodley of Menie v. Rationalwiki Foundation, Inc. (1:25-cv-00296)

Given the connection between the four pseudoscience plaintiffs and International Society for Intelligence Research, it's possible that this maybe-coordinated SLAPP attack on Rational Wiki is being funded by the Institute of Mental Chronometry which has not only provided funding for the ISIR, but has given half a million dollars to two academics who are also affiliated with ISIR, Emily Willoughby and James J. Lee. The Rational Wiki article on Willoughby was recently removed, although I disagree with that decision. 

So ISIR/Institute of Mental Chronometry could probably afford to fund the lawsuits and I absolutely would not put it past them. 

But my main suspect is the Human Diversity Foundation. But at this point, is there really much difference between the Human Diversity Foundation and the International Society for Intelligence Research? There is so much cross-over between the people and the racist beliefs of the two organizations, why would they not coordinate to try to make race pseudoscience respectable by crushing Rational Wiki? 

In the article which City Journal was forced to remove from its site because of a defamation lawsuit, and most likely written at the behest of Emil Kirkegaard, it is claimed that Jonathan Anomaly, Jan te Nijenhuis, Emil Kirkegaard and Emily Willoughby, among others, were harmed by Rational Wiki because of an editor named Oliver Smith - who stopped editing at Rational Wiki in 2019.

I see Jesse Singal was showing his support for team race pseudoscience on X/Twitter a couple of months ago, by promoting that defamatory attack and smearing Rational Wiki in the process.  Rational Wiki debunked the article's claims, which the shit "journalist" Singal couldn't be bothered to research - probably because he hates Rational Wiki, comparing it unfavorably to the psychopathic Kiwi Farms on his podcast.

Singal is so devoted to race pseudoscience promoters he will block those who question his alliance with the indisputably racist Razib Khan, who of course has worked for Emil Kirkegaard.  And yes, Khan has participated in an ISIR conference too, in 2019.

When the IDW comes after you

 

Lehmann claimed, without evidence,

There was no chemical attack.

Quillette was identified by Bari Weiss, in her NYTimes article as "the publication most associated with (the IDW)."

In spite of claims that can be found online that Andy Ngo was fired by Quillette, he is in fact still listed as a "contributing writer" at Quillette.

As Buzzfeed News wrote:

He’s whittled his themes down to a brutally efficient, social media- and Fox News–friendly trio: Hate crimes are hoaxes, anti-fascists are the real fascists, and liberals are naive about Islam, which is violent. And he now edits part time for Quillette, the so-called heterodox publication that has staked out a position as a home for centrist journalists and academics disgruntled about left-wing activism and woke culture. It gives him an easy way to defeat charges that he’s a right-wing activist.

Ngo also had connections to the Trump administration, and Ngo's relentless attempts to demonize the rag-tag group of unorganized anonymous leftists, Antifa, was so popular with the Trump administration that at one point during the January 6 attack on the US Capitol, Trump claimed the attackers were Antifa.

So I was very interested to see an article in The Intercept, A Right-Wing Brawler Asked a Court to Protect Him From an Antifascist’s Tweets. 

It seems that rightwing extremists went after an activist who had volunteered to investigate far-right groups:

LODER FIRST BECAME alarmed while working as a consultant for tech companies that wanted to keep their sites clear of hate speech and messages that promote violence; they realized that social media platforms were not doing enough to keep extremists “from fundraising and recruiting and spreading their hateful messages.” Paying attention to what was on those platforms during Donald Trump’s 2016 campaign, and in the lead-up to the 2017 Unite the Right rally in Charlottesville, Virginia, Loder said, felt like “pointing at an oncoming freight train, and then just watching it happen.” 

So, working on weekends, Loder started to tackle the problem as a volunteer, watching hours of footage from right-wing social media feeds and trying to identify groups that might be using political rallies as “grass to hide in, to recruit and carry out violent acts.” 

Loder has tried to prod social networks into taking action against users who threaten violence. In 2019, Loder set up searches to collect death threats directed at Rep. Ilhan Omar, after then-President Donald Trump tweeted a video that distorted her comments on the 9/11 attacks alongside images of the World Trade Center in flames. Loder then urged other users to mass-report those tweets to press Twitter to enforce its rules and remove them.

The article reports on Andy Ngo's connection: 

In July, Loder helped identify  far-right activist Aaron Simmons as the masked attacker who clubbed an independent filmmaker in the head during an anti-trans protest in Los Angeles. (That attack had been wrongly blamed on antifascists after video of the assault was tweeted with a misleading caption by Andy Ngo, a far-right commentator.) Simmons was subsequently arrested and charged with assault with a deadly weapon for the attack on the filmmaker (Simmons had menaced Loder outside the Torrence courthouse in September)...

Ngo was identified as a "free speech grifter" in 2018 along with a named member of the IDW, Christina Hoff Sommers. But of course free speech only goes one way with grifters:

In the meantime, Loder has also repulsed two recent legal complaints from lawyers working for Andy Ngo. The first was a copyright complaint over a photograph Loder tweeted of Ngo posing in front of fascist graffiti in Poland. The second was a cease-and-desist letter concerning Loder’s role in a Twitter campaign to shame companies into pulling their ads from the Canadian website Ngo writes for, The Post Millennial.

Loder scoffs at Ngo’s complaint that putting pressure on the site’s advertisers is a form of censorship. “I’m not censoring you,” Loder said they would tell Ngo. “But I am showing advertisers what your site looks like and what’s on there, and they’re dropping you.”

Thanks to Quillette and other rightwing media, Ngo was classified as a "journalist" for a time, but soon news outlets discovered that Ngo was very much a partisan:

Nowhere was this demonstrated more quickly than in the case of the meteoric rise and equally rapid fall of Andy Ngo, the provocateur and social media personality who garnered nationwide sympathy last June, when he tweeted that he was attacked by antifascist protesters at a Proud Boys rally. Last week, the local newspaper the Portland Mercury reported that a left-wing activist going undercover as a member of Patriot Prayer, a far-right group known for promoting and engaging in violent clashes with leftist activists, had given the publication an 18-minute video that included footage of Ngo with a group of Patriot Prayer members as the members discuss an upcoming brawl, including weaponry to be used in altercations with antifa. Ngo, who describes himself as a journalist, did not record the conversation, and does not appear to have his camera or notebook out. For part of the footage, he is seen on his phone.

It should be mentioned here that both Ngo and Proud Boys have shown up at public demonstrations disguised as Antifa and BLM supporters.

Luckily for Loder, California has a robust anti-SLAPP law:

Unfortunately for Kiefer, that is not how the law works. Thomas Burke, a lawyer who wrote a book on California’s anti-SLAPP statute, told me that it doesn’t matter at all if Loder is defined as an activist or a journalist. The law is designed to protect anyone whose free speech in a public forum or on a matter of public interest is threatened by a meritless lawsuit or injunction.... 

...As Burke explained, the original aim was to stop wealthy corporations from suing environmentalists or residents of an area who protested a company’s use of land but could not afford the legal fees to defend themselves from a libel suit. A later amendment added language saying that the statute “shall be construed broadly.” Since then, courts have ruled that anti-SLAPP protections apply to people who are providing information to the public, whether they are activists or journalists.

My work is different from Loder's: he focuses on the rightwing extremists themselves. I am less likely to be the target of violent threats, since I focus on the mainstream right-wingers who sometimes aid and abet extremists, and "celebrity intellectuals" like Steven Pinker, who, while he may not support Andy Ngo directly, seems to have no problem supporting Quillette, which helped legitimize Ngo's grift. Pinker even has a couple of bylines in Quillette.

Quillette also published Razib Khan's review of Charles Murray's latest book in which Khan agreed with Murray we need to "connect the dots" about Black Americans or "face disaster." That information is public, but few people outside the Quillette audience are aware of it. It's possible Khan considers my publicizing his menacing views of Black Americans as some kind of threat to his career.

I'm grateful New York State also has a robust anti-SLAPP law.

The insanity at Rational Wiki

Apparently the people running the Rational Media Foundation, which publishes Rational Wiki, have cut a deal over its SLAPP lawsuits that is so insane, it includes an agreement to not only remove articles about racist extremists like Emil Kirkegaard and Charles Murray, but it is now forbidden to even mention their names anywhere on Rational Wiki.

This is an insane level of censorship and indicates just how bad things are at the Rational Media Foundation. 

There still may be hope for the organization if it ever relocates to a less SLAPP-friendly state - the plan was to move to Oregon - we will see.

I absolutely blame neo-Nazi Emil Kirkegaard and his international racist/Nazi organization Human Diversity Foundation as all the SLAPP suits were from people connected in some way to Kirkegaard. 

The article about HDF and its Substack Aporia were also removed and references censored. This is a stunning attack on free speech.

Rational Wiki censorship-palooza - so many connections to Emil Kirkegaard!

Some articles were deleted because of SLAPP lawsuits instigated by Jonathan Anomaly, Noah Carl, Michael A. Woodley of Menie, Russell T. Warne, Jan te Nijenhuis, Jonatan Pallesen and James Thompson.

But a whole bunch of other articles were removed without reference to a public lawsuit. 

All of the yanked articles have a connection to Emil Kirkegaard, the center of an international Neo-Nazi, racist, eugenics network.

It looks to me like Kirkegaard (aka William Engman) is taking care of all his allies, supporters and employees in an effort to avoid public scrutiny for various race pseudoscience and far-right political statements and activities.

• Charles Murray - I will be reposting most of the contents of the article on Pinkerite since I was the main contributor - Murray has donated money to Emil Kirkegaard. Charles Murray is a famous public figure and the article was well-sourced and its removal would never have prevailed in a court of law. There is no doubt this was yanked out of pure, financial-threat SLAPP thuggery.

But what's up with Claire Lehmann? In the tweet I posted above, she's asking "TracingWoodgrains" (who has a Substack account that claims racist extremist Curtis Yarvin's "...framework is more relevant than ever") to check and see if her RW article was deleted. Even I didn't think Claire Lehmann was so stupid she couldn't figure out how to find her own article on Rational Wiki. Maybe she figures TracingWoodgrains knows who is on the deletion list for articles that haven't yet been deleted.

I thought that Lehmann and Kirkegaard were good buddies who go way back. How did Lehmann get left off the list? I've copied her archive link, just in case.

Based on the Rational Wiki removal log, it looks like censorship-palooza got started on May 8, starting with Lipton Matthews, then Anatoly Karlin, then Human Diversity Foundation... see for yourself below. (RMF) indicates the article was yanked by order of Rational Media Foundation, instead of going through the usual voting process.

That was a week ago, but the censorship-palooza festivities have continued right through today, with the articles for John Fuerst, Human Varieties and Asbiro University all being yanked. We'll see if anything is yanked tomorrow. I'm betting right now anything that is yanked by order of RMF in the near future will be connected to Emil Kirkegaard, one way or the other.

No matter how secret this deal is, I am confident that the truth about all this censorship will come out one day.

Who were the biggest racists at the 2025 annual meeting of the International Society for Intelligence Research?

Steven Pinker was not at the 2025 meeting although he's been to a few others. But he was apparently thrilled that his gutter racist chum Claire Lehmann received an award from ISIR this year. 

ISIR did not make its meeting program available on its website in 2024, unlike every other year prior, possibly because in August 2024 I created a spreadsheet to track all those who have been official participants of ISIR meetings. And without that resource, there is not much data in my database for 2024.

And I feared 2025 would be the same story since the 2025 program was not posted either.

BUT THEN! A MENSA person named Laura Endicott Thomas posted the 2025 ISIR program on the Northern New Jersey MENSA website. Thomas is a hard-core fan of race pseudoscience so I don't think she's being deliberately mean by noting the low attendance for this year's meeting. Thomas is also a Trump supporter and has a theory - a lot of Europeans did not show up because they believed the "propaganda" about Trump and his administration's utter disregard for the rule of law. 

Yeah, I had heard that MENSA people were not very impressive.

So far I've seen no evidence that neo-Nazi Emil Kirkegaard was at the 2025 meeting although he was clearly welcomed back by the ISIR organization in 2024. But several of his close allies and people he's funded were there.

Russell T. Warne's far-right and racist views are obvious from the list of work published by Warne on his own website. He is unashamed to admit he's published in Kirkegaard's neo-Nazi, racist Aporia Magazine and he's also published in Quillette and Mankind Quarterly. As the Hope Not Hate exposé about Kirkegaard noted:

A recent research paper, published in the respected scientific journal PLOS ONE and co-authored by Mankind Quarterly contributor Russell T. Warne, acknowledged that it had been funded by a grant from HDF. His paper looked to undermine the idea that African Americans suffer from “stereotype threat”, a psychological theory that negative stereotypes internalised by minority groups can damage their cognitive performance.

"HDF" stands for "Human Diversity Foundation" which was the name for Kirkegaard's neo-Nazi umbrella organization until he changed it to the more behavioral genetics-sounding "Polygenic Scores."

I was somewhat horrified to discover that Warne provides a link to an article in which he claims to be "a theatre critic and self-avowed 'Shakespeare fanboy.'" I certainly hope Warne tells the readers of his theater reviews that he is allied with - and funded by - a racist/neo-Nazi. Especially if he reviews "Othello." Oh wait, he has reviewed Othello, in 2011 - maybe that was before Warne became a dedicated gutter racist.

Naturally Kirkegaard is a fan of Warne's work, testifying on his blog in 2023: "Back in 2021, Russell Warne wrote a nice summary article about race differences in intelligence..."

Warne was also one of the censorship ghouls who SLAPP-sued Rational Wiki for telling the truth about his extremism.

At the ISIR meeting, Warne gave a talk on Rethinking Mental Speed: Unraveling the Mystery of Item Response Time. I assume that is related to Arthur Jensen's "Mental Chronometry" which was a big disappointment to race pseudoscience. But they keep trying anyway, I guess.

Warne's business account on Twitter, Riot IQ, promotes the work of evolutionary psychologist David Geary, which makes it it clear that Riot IQ's "science" is based on the joke pseudoscience of evolutionary psychology so exquisitely eviscerated by biologist P. Z. Myers in this video.

No doubt about it - by multiple metrics, Russell T. Warne is a gutter racist.

David Geary, the keynote speaker for the annual meeting, is a gutter racist, appearing on the Aporia podcast after the HOPE not Hate exposé made it crystal clear that Aporia was part of a neo-Nazi network owned by Emil Kirkegaard. Although to be fair, Geary's beat is more about misogyny just-so stories than about race. Still, he co-authored a paper with the race-obsessed twins, Ben and Bo Winegard - Bo Winegard is now one of Emil Kirkegaard's main toadies. So Geary is a definite gutter racist.

Geary's piece for the ISIR meeting was "The nurture of nature: Why sex differences are larger in healthy and wealthy nations" Looks like it's part of the ongoing hereditarian project to prove that girls are genetic losers in STEM subjects.

Michael A Woodley of Menie - unlike these other gutter racists, Woodley is the only one that I know of who has been declared outright a "racist" in the New York Times, in the article "A Racist Researcher, Exposed by a Mass Shooting." That article is about Woodley's work showing up in the racist manifesto of the anti-Black mass murderer in Buffalo New York a few years ago. 

Although as I've said many times, it's really unfair to Woodley, as the work of several ISIR meeting participants showed up in the manifesto.

Woodley has co-authored papers with so many other racists, including Kirkegaard, that I wonder if he is capable of authoring a paper with someone who is not a racist.

Woodley is one of the ghouls who used a SLAPP lawsuit to censor Rational Wiki. You can tell it was pure SLAPP intimidation since the New York Times article is at least as damning as the Rational Wiki one, but as far as I know, Woodley did not try to sue the New York Times.

Thomas R. Coyle, past president of ISIR has co-authored several papers with gutter racist Heiner Rinderman who publishes in Kirkegaard's OpenPsych pseudo-journal. According to the ISIR 2025 program "...a new open-access journal, Intelligence & Cognitive Abilities, was established by Thomas Coyle and Richard Haier to reflect the growing need for an unbiased publication platform committed to free inquiry." 

I had heard about this journal, I heard it was a response by the more racist members of the ISIR network to Intelligence magazine saying it would be less welcoming in the future to race pseudoscience. I fully expect that Coyle and Haier's new journal will publish work by Emil Kirkegaard, as Intelligence has done in the past but presumably no longer will. They've already published articles by Warne, Woodley and other racists.

Coyle teamed up with other members of the league of racist villains in a paper responding to critics of race pseudoscience. You can almost smell the burning cross coming from this list of Coyle and his co-authors Michael A Woodley of Menie, Mateo Peñaherrera-Aguirre, Aurelio-José Figueredo, Geoffrey F Miller, Noah Carl, Fróði Debes, Craig L Frisby, Federico R Leon, Guy Madison and Heiner Rindermann.

At this annual meeting Coyle chaired sessions, introduced Lehmann's speech, and was represented by a paper called "Tilt increases at higher ability levels: support for differentiation theories."

I first heard about "tilt" when I saw Lehmann and Kirkegaard having a friendly chat about it on Twitter.

In case anybody has any doubts about Lehmann's comfort with neo-Nazis.

Coyle wrote about "tilt" for Intelligence magazine, with a somewhat more vivid title:

White-Black differences in tech tilt: Support for Spearman's law and investment theories. 

There appears to be no effort in this paper to determine exactly who counts as "Black" and who counts as "White" - which is absolutely typical of race pseudoscience. 

Douglas K. Detterman was honored at the meeting for founding ISIR. Detterman is part of the old guard of racists, along with white nationalist Arthur Jensen, who is, mercifully, dead.

Detterman was the Vice President of another organization created to promote the work of Jensen, the Institute for the Study of Educational Differences, which received Nazi money via the Pioneer Fund. The institute was later renamed Institute for Mental Chronometry, which still exists, and which pays for support services for ISIR meetings and recently donated a large sum to Emily Willoughby and James Lee, board members of ISIR.

I don't think it's an exaggeration to say that Detterman worships Jensen - and because of, not in spite of his racism. On a website created by Emil Kirkegaard to honor Jensen there is an article by Detterman explaining why Jensen was right to suggest that "group differences" in intelligence testing were genetic.

Into this cauldron of social and scientific confusion, Arthur Jensen (1969) published a paper in Harvard Educational Review entitled, “How much can we boost IQ and scholastic achievement?” According to rumors, the paper was based on a talk given at a meeting of the American Association for Educational Research and editors of the Harvard Educational Review invited the paper and perhaps even sought to make it more controversial than the original submission. When the paper came to press, the results were explosive.

A brief synopsis of the paper is that this more than 120 page paper presented evidence bearing on the title question—is it possible to boost scholastic achievement and IQ through environmental intervention. Jensen's answer to the question was that it may not be possible to boost either IQ or academic achievement through environmental interventions because both have a substantial heritable component and are highly correlated with each other. Not more than a few pages of the paper dealt with race and intelligence but given the frequently observed mean IQ differences between groups, there was some inevitable discussion of these differences. The basic thesis of the majority of the paper was that it may not be possible to raise IQ and subsequent academic achievement through environmental interventions.

Jensen had hit every exposed nerve of the time and immediately became a lightning rod for those against the ideas he presented which seemed to be nearly everyone.

Heritable differences between groups were repugnant to psychological environmentalists, to communists, and to those who misinterpreted the fundamental concept of democracy that “all people are created equal” (instead of equal under the law). His thesis was also difficult to accept for those who believed that all differences between people could and should be accounted for by environmental differences.

As usual with hereditarians, Detterman misuses the term "heritable." And obviously Detterman agrees with Jensen's idiotic racist beliefs. The problem, in his mind, is all those communists who refuse to accept that some "groups" are clearly intellectually, genetically inferior. 

Detterman is predictably a big fan of indisputable gutter racist Charles Murray. In his glowing review of Murray's more recent piece of hereditarian garbage, "Human Diversity," he piously lectures those of us who are not afraid to point out that Charles Murray is a racist:

Do not engage in ad hominem attacks. Calling people racists or fascists or other nasty names does not resolve scientific debates. 

Like E. O. Wilson, Detterman would like to be seen as a genteel racist, and genteel racists are shocked by naughty words like fascist and racist. 

Something that Murray's defenders reliably fail to mention: Murray is not a life scientist, he's a political scientist. And as such, he's had a very successful career - thanks in large part to far-right reactionaries funding wingnut welfare -  convincing the stupid and the gullible that he speaks as a scientist about race, intelligence and genetics. It's fascinating that Detterman fully accepts Murray as an expert on scientific issues. But then, Detterman is a psychologist, which is only a slightly more scientific field than political science.

Detterman also signed gutter racist Linda Gottfredson's defense of the Bell Curve with dozens of other racists and assorted right-wing ghouls.

I'm certain that every one of them considers Charles Murray a better source of science information than Stephen Jay Gould, a paleontologist and evolutionary biologist, in part because they hate Gould's political views. Politics is everything to race pseudoscience.

Not only does Detterman adore Jensen, he attempted to mainstream the career of gutter racist Jean-Phillip Rushton. As Rushton testifies in his paper The Equalitarian Dogma Revisited: 

Fortunately, albeit after another lengthy review process, Douglas Detterman accepted the paper for Intelligence (Rushton, 1994), and invited me to write this editorial.

"Equalitarianism Dogma" is the term that race pseudoscience racists use to attack their critics, claiming that the only reason anybody opposes hereditarianism is because of politics, not because of science. The term was used by segregationist Henry Garrett in 1961 in Mankind Quarterly (now owned by Emil Kirkegaard) and more recently by Kirkegaard employee Bo Winegard and associates in 2023.

Here is some of what Rushton says in the editorial published by Detterman:

Evolutionary hypotheses for why Asians average the largest brains and have the most intelligence have been provided (Rushton, 1995) . The currently accepted view of human origins, the "African Eve" theory, posits a beginning in Africa some 200,000 years ago, an exodus through the Middle East with an African/non-African split about 110,000 years ago, and a Caucasoid/Mongoloid split about 40,000 years ago. Evolutionary selection pressures are different in the hot savanna where Africans evolved than in the cold arctic where Mongoloids evolved. The further north out of Africa that populations migrated, the more they encountered the cognitively demanding problems of gathering, and storing food, gaining shelter, making clothes, and raising children during prolonged winters . I proposed that as the original African populations evolved into Caucasoids and Mongoloids, they did so in the direction of larger brains, slower rates of maturation, and other traits differentiating the populations .

To further account for why Negroids are also, on average, more fertile, faster maturing, and more sexually active, I proposed a gene-based evolutionary theory familiar to population biologists as the r-K scale of reproductive strategy . At one end of this scale are r-strategies, which emphasize high reproductive rates, and, at the other, K-strategies, which emphasize high levels of parental investment (nurturing). The scale is generally used to compare different species, but I used it to describe the immensely smaller variations within the human species . I hypothesized that Mongoloid people are more K-selected than Caucasoids, who in turn are more K-selected than Negroids,

In the first paragraph, Rushton calls on the 19th-century "cold winters" fantasy, in the second, he uses E. O. Wilson's work on r/K strategies, to basically suggest that "Negroids" are a separate species from "Caucasoids" and "Mongoloids." We know he did that with the complete approval of Wilson.

But how DARE you call that racist! Quick, Detterman, the smelling salts!

Conclusion: If E. O. Wilson is a gutter racist for aiding and abetting Rushton, than Douglas K. Detterman is also a gutter racist.

Curtis Dunkel is part of Kirkegaard's network. Dunkel's contribution to the ISIR meeting is a paper, "A cross-trait analysis of the Dunning-Kruger effect" co-authored with Dimitri Van Der Linden, who has also co-authored a paper with racist extremists Edward Dutton and the mercifully dead Richard Lynn.

So those are the biggest racists of the 2025 annual meeting of the International Society for Intelligence Research. I'm sure there were plenty more at this meeting, in spite of its low attendance, but those are the names that jumped out at me. But the ISIR is never going to rid itself of racist extremists because without them and the beliefs they represent, ISIR would barely exist.

So who ELSE works for Emil Kirkegaard and HDF (aka POLYGENIC SCORES LLC), the new Pioneer Fund?

In a previous post I discussed the findings of the Hope not Hate organization about who works for Emil Kirkegaard and his neo-Nazi organization, Human Diversity Foundation - which has recently been renamed Polygenic Scores LLC.

In this post we'll talk about all the rest of those who have worked for Kirkegaard via  Aporia and The Jolly Heretic.

After going through the content of both Aporia and the Jolly Heretic, I noticed two major differences: the Jolly Heretic is more obviously racist, and right from the jump, interviewing infamous ghouls like Peter Brimelow and Jared Taylor in its first year. And the second difference is that the Jolly Heretic is much more focused on one person, Edward Dutton, who loves to post images of himself on the site. I guess Dutton thinks this is some kind of selling point. At the same time, Dutton has concerns about other people's narcissism. 

When I say "work for" I don't claim to know what compensation arrangements these individuals made with Kirkegaard's organization, and whether their connection is current or in the past. But I assume all received money or other forms of compensation to associate their names with Aporia or Jolly Heretic - in many cases both. 

The 139 names listed below are those who have contributed to Aporia and Jolly Heretic before the exposé from Hope not hate that made it undeniable that the two websites are Emil Kirikegaard-controlled neo-Nazi media outlets. 

Undeniable because Aporia published an article about the exposé. As did the Jolly Heretic.
